Margarittaville, Hollywood, Florida
At the airport with happy faces waiting to board our plane. It’s that time when the snow and cold seems that it’s never going to leave. A trip to Florida with our flip flops is what the doctor orders!
Excited to be on our flight to Florida. Although we flew on Spirit and came to conclusion that although they advertise cheaper flights it is so not worth it. The only thing you don’t pay extra for is a small carry-on and I stress SMALL. The dimensions are about the size of a purse. They charge extra for a check-in bags which dimensions and weight are also much smaller and lighter than your average suitcase or any other airline check-in bag dimensions and weight for that matter. You pay extra to pick up your boarding pass at the airport, to choose your seats, and they ran out of toilet paper on board. There are no trays to pull down to set your stuff on. Why? There is no room for a tray which means absolutely no leg room. All in all, after adding in all the extras they charged along the way, we paid as much or more than if we had chosen another airline.
We landed at Fort Lauderdale International Airport and this is the first thing we saw as getting off the plane, ahh!
Yup, it’s always 5 o’clock at the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort! The resort does not offer shuttle services from the airport but the receptionist was very helpful in sharing that Uber would be half the cost of taking a cab. She was right!
Okay, we had to play the tourists and get our pictures with the giant flip flop in the hotel lobby.
The check in went smoothly with everyone being very friendly, accommodating and helpful.
First thing I must do! Feel the beach with all of my senses.
We had lunch at the LandShark Bar & Grill which is part of the hotel. Food was good but view was better. The Margarittaville Hollywood Beach Resort has a surf simulator, FlowRider. We were pleasantly entertained as we ate lunch.
A few feet across the boardwalk you can enjoy the resort’s beach. Cabana men will assist you with umbrellas and lounge chairs. They also offer paddle boards for the adventurous ones.
These are my friends. Na, it’s the back wall of the elevator we took to our room. The picture made me feel fuzzy all over. The room was great. It had a very beachy feel to it.
Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort has two pools. One is island inspired with a very cool slide which I really enjoyed. The other pool was an adult only pool. However, there were a couple of bridal showers at the resort so the adult-only pool got very loud and almost annoying. Cocktails are served at both pools. I preferred the children playing and splashing than the loud and juvenile behavior exhibited by the young drunk adults.
We chose to visit in February. We beat the crowds. The weather was perfect for the beach and pool during the day and the humidity was in check. We enjoyed strolling down the boardwalk and people watching.
We stopped for lunch at The Taco Spot on the boardwalk. We were delighted to see the specialty drinks they serve like Pineapple Colada in real pineapples and Coco Loco served in a coconut. They also offer a great menu of Mexican food which looks, smells and tastes amazing. Did I mention that they climbed to #1 in Travelocity since they’ve opened due to satisfied customer reviews. Another must try us Nicks Bar & Grill just up from The Taco Spot. I had the clam cakes and their Bahamian Conch Fritters, A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
After dinner we used Uber to drive us to Hollywood Boulevard and Harrison Street. The street is several blocks lined up with boutiques, art galleries, restaurants and most importantly a Starbucks! I was starting to go through SB withdrawals. I have to admit I was shocked not to find one in or near Margaritaville. The chocolate covered strawberries we found were a delight.
Our last night we ate at GG’s Waterfront Bar and Grill. It’s located just up the street from the Resort on the bay side. The views are nice and the food was great. My Pina Colada didn’t taste like a Pina Colada and whatever it tasted like I didn’t like.
After dinner we ended the night back at the hotel at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville listening to a band and making a toast to a great weekend spent in Florida.
I really liked the Margaritaville exclusive bike, especially the handlebar parrot bell!
It’s never easy to back home. However, it’s when we start planning our next trip to get excited about!
