Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Visiting Jackson Hole, Wyoming

We flew into Salt Lake City and rented a car.  Had a quick visit with my son and his fiance and were off on a five hour drive to Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  The drive was breathtaking especially as we neared Wyoming.

We had made reservations at the Cowboy Village Resort.  I had stayed there once before years and years ago so I didn’t know what to expect.  When we arrived, I was pleasantly surprised.  The Cowboy Village Resort had stood still in time.  It had been kept up very nicely.  It is located right in town which allows you to walk to all the galleries, shops, eateries and bars.  The little cabins are quaint and very comfortable.  Three of us share one comfortably.  They each come equipped with a grill and seating on the front porch.  There is a pool, hot tub, fitness center and our room had a kitchenette.

The next morning we were up bright and early and walked over to Bubba’s Bar-B-Que for breakfast.  The food was homestyle and the portions were huge.  A great start for a day of whitewater rafting on the Snake River.  After breakfast we headed to Mad River Boat Trips for our whitewater adventure.  The personnel were very friendly and courteous.  They obviously love their jobs.  They fitted us with all the gear we needed and shuttled us on their bus to the river.  You do your own paddling on the raft.  If you’re not comfortable paddling then you can choose to sit in the center of the raft.  Each raft is accompanied by a professional, experienced, and highly-trained river guide.  They have all sorts of raft adventures to choose from.  Some even include riverside cookouts.  It was a fantastic adrenaline rush!

In the afternoon, we took a leisurely walk into town for some shopping, pizza at Pinky Gs Pizzaria, drinks and country dancing at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.

The next morning we started off stopping at the Grand Tetons.  We enjoyed the views as we had an early lunch.  There are many activities to do at the Grand Tetons but we were on our way to Yellowstone.  We were already running a little behind since I took over an hour detour to get there.  However, we were happy to have found a road that we had all to ourselves and the view was priceless.  The smell of pine needles cleared our lungs of the polluted city air.

Yellowstone left me breathless.  I couldn’t take in enough.  All of my senses were overloaded.  Unfortunately, we only made less than half way around before it started getting dark and we had to turn back.  I will return to finish driving and exploring the other half one day soon.

It was a wonderful few days in Wyoming.  I would recommend at least a whole week here.  There are so many activities we didn’t get to because of lack of time.   There’s the 42 mile scenic loop drive in Grand teton and the Aerial Tram in Grand Teton Village.  Don’t miss hiking Jenny Lake Trail and the falls in Yellowstone.  Let’s not forget Devils Tower National Monument just across the state line.  Many more things that will take your breath away.
