A Day In Bushkill Falls

A Day In Bushkill Falls

Bushkill Falls is know as the Niagara of Pennsylvania.  It is located in the Poconos Mountains in eastern PA.  We spent a day hiking the trail that takes you past 8 different falls and offers views from different angles of most falls.  It was late autumn and most of the foliage had already fallen to the ground.  The skies were deep blue and cloudless.  The golden leaves covering the ground and the dark bark of the trees reaching up to the sky was breathtaking.  The falls are always the main attractions for everyone but I believe we need to slow down and take it all in.  I observed people almost racing from one fall to the next missing all the beauty in between.  The water was low so the falls although still magnificent weren’t gushing the expected rush of water.  There are four trails to choose from.  You can choose from a 15 minute to a three hour hike.  The red trail at the upper canyon was closed off during our visit.  They were working on renovations of the bridge and trail.  We started on the red trail and crossed over the bridge at Laurel Glen and continued on the red trail all the way back to the visitor center.  There a couple areas of steep steps but if you pace yourself, they are definitely doable.  The trails are well marked and kept in real good condition making the entrance fee well worth it.  It was a very satisfying experience and recommended to families of varying ages and physical conditioning.
