Cape May, PA In December
Why Cape May In December?
Who goes to the beach in the middle of December? It was my first question. My second question was, “What do you do at the beach in the middle of winter?” The travel group rented a couple of houses for a long weekend in December. The homes were very nice, comfortable with kitchens fully stocked. The weather was cool and crisp which made the ocean sparkle even more. Being on the shore without the crowds is almost magical. The whole ocean belongs to you. The stresses from daily life just flow away with each wave. It felt just as good to sit and lay under the winter sun fully dressed as it does laying in a bathing suit in summer. You can hear every wave, ripple and seagull without the hustle and bustle of crowds and boomboxes. The sunsets were even more enchanting.
Most of these homes are for rent at great prices during the off season. Some are quite large, perfect for large groups.
What To Do In Cape May In December
There was so much to do that in the four days there we didn’t even cover it all. A must do is going to visiting the Winter Wonderland at Congress Hall. It really feel like you’re entering Santa’s residence in the North Pole. Real nutcrackers greeted us in the doorway; very friendly and cute nutcrackers. The holiday decorations were tasteful and if you aren’t in the holiday mood yet you will be five minutes after entering. There is a beautifully decorated tree glowing brightly in the courtyard along with craft booths, a merry-go-round and Santa’s sleigh. The second must is taking the Holiday Lights Trolley Tour. The old Victorian homes are decorated with lights and they are each exquisite. The group sang carols, laughed, took photos and had a fabulous time. If you want a more private tour you can go by carriage or walking Christmas Candlelight House Tours. The Cape May Carriage Company offers holiday tours. We were lucky to be there for the Cape May Christmas Parade. Back at the house, we played a great gift exchange game and had an Ugly Sweater Contest. The group all enjoyed Capy May in December. All the shops, restaurants and bars in Cape May stay open during this festive period. I had a wonderful time and plan on going again. Next time, I will review some of the restaurants and bars and suggest the better ones.
